OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

“Scouting is three-quarters "–outing”

The first Boy Scout summer camp was held in 1907. Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting, brought together a group of twenty-two Scouts on Brownsea Island off the coast of England. They were divided into four patrols – the Wolves, Bulls, Curlews, and Ravens. After setting up their tents and cooking areas, they devoted seven days to woodcraft, nature observation, lifesaving, and Scout skills. Around the evening campfires they told stories, sang songs, and performed skits. The Scouts agreed that their summer camp had been a terrific success.

Today’s camporees and summer camps can be just as exciting as their first one on Brownsea Island. You can spend your days hiking, swimming, mastering the lore of Scouting, and learning about nature. You’ll have plenty of chances to pass requirements for badges and to practice no-trace camping methods. You might even get to know Scouts from other areas.
