FIRST CLASS SCOUT

"I look upon swimming as an essential qualification for First Class Scout, and for every man. Also, I don't consider a boy is a real Scout till he has passed his First Class Scout! -Baden-Powell To be a First Class swimmer you must increase your swimming strength and stamina, and learn how to rest while swimming in deep water. You will also learn boating safety, water survival skills, and how to serve as a lifeguard when your troop goes swimming.

9a Tell what precautions must be taken for a safe trip afloat. Some of Scouting's most exciting activities happen on the water. Rowing, canoeing, sailing, sailboarding, motorboating, waterskiing, rafting, kayaking, and surfboarding can be highlights of many adventures. Safely take part in them by following the BSA Safety Afloat guidelines.
