FIRST AID ACCIDENT SCENES

THE SCENE OF A BAD ACCIDENT

can be scary. Injured persons might be screaming. Witnesses might be too stunned to help. Try to stay calm and use the skills you have in the best way you can. If more experienced first-iders take charge, tell them you are a Scout and are ready to help. They might ask you to gather first aid supplies, look after persons who are not injured, go for help, or simply stay out of the way. Whatever your role, be positive. Your confidence could help others lose their fear.

First Things First

Treat accident victims by performing these steps in this order:

  1. Approach with care. Is the scene safe? Guard against being injured yourself.
  2. Treat hurry cases are conditions athat threaten a victim's life:

As you begin, send someone to call for help.

3. Threat every accident victim for shock.

4. Examine every victim every victim for other injuries that might require first aid.

5. Plan what to do next. If help is coming, keep the victim comfortable. Watch for any changes in his or her condition and treat accordingly.
