CEREAL

Hot cereal tastes great on chilly mornings. In the summer you orefer cold cereal or granola 1 might with milk. Avoid flakes and other forms of cereal that will be crushed in your pack.

For each serving, bring 1 cup of - water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt. Stir in half a cup of rolled oats, cover, and cook until ready. For extra flavor, drop some raisins or chopped fruit into the boiling water. Serve oatmeal with milk. brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, or a spoonful of jam.

Granola
Made of toasted oats, granola is terrific as an outdoor breakfast that doesn't require cooking. Different brands come mixed with nuts, raisins, dried fruit, and other good things. Try a bowl of granola with milk. By itself, granola also makes a tasty trail snack.

EGGS
Boiled Eggs
Gently lower eggs into boiling water with a spoon. Cook 3 to 3% minutes for soft-boiled, 10 minutes for hard-boiled. Cooling the eggs in cold water makes them easy to peel.

Fried Eggs
Heat a teaspoon of butter, margarine, or cooking oil in a pan. Carefully crack in 2 eggs. For "sunny-side up," fry them over low heat until the white becomes firm. Flip them and cook a while longer if you like your eggs "over easy."
