Once you know how many meals you need, write down what you want to prepare and eat for each of those meals. The recipes in this chapter will give you some ideas. Other ideas might come from Scouts in your patrol who have favorite family recipes that are different from the ones you are accustomed to eating at home.

Many people have food allergies that can trigger serious allergic reactions. If not correctly treated, these allergies can be threatening. Foods such as dairy products, grains, and nuts the most common allergens. Care should be given when planning patrol menus.

SHOPPING LISTS

List every ingredient for each dish. Use the chart on page 261 to determine the amounts you will need for the number of people in your patrol. Do not forget such items as cooking oil, honey or sugar and spices.

Cost per Person

Take your shopping list to a grocery store and write down the prices of the ingredients you plan to buy. Figure out each Scout's share by adding up the costs, then dividing the sum by the number of Scouts going on the outing.

Size of Servings
Food packages often list the amounts required for one or more servings. Outdoor activities build up big appetites, so lean toward more rather than less.
