SECOND CLASS SCOUT

To become a Tenderfoot Scout you learned about poisonous plants, how to perform the Heimlich maneuver, and ways to treat a few common injuries. The requirements for Second Class will help you understand the bigger picture of first aid as you practice the right way to approach the scene of an accident, figure out what is wrong, and then decide what to do.

6a Show what to do for "hurry" eases of stopped breathing, serious bleeding, and internal poisoning. [See chapter 11, First Aid," pages 293-302.]

6b. Prepare a personal first aid kit to take with you on a hike. [See chapter 11, 'First Aid," page 289.)

6c. Demonstrate first aid for the following:

Object in the eye ("First Aid" chapter, page 314)

Bite of a suspected rabid animal ("First Aid," page 312 m)

Puncture wounds from a splinter, nail, and fishhook ("First Aid," page 365

Serious burns (second-degree) ("First Aid,"page 306)

Heatexhaustion. ("First Aid," page 319)

Shock ("First Aid."page 303.)

Heatstroke, dehydration, hypothermia, and hyperventilation (First Aid pages 320, 321, 323, 314)
