Many Scout hikes will lead to places you know well. You might also want to take off for destinations you've never visited before. Wherever you go, you can find your way with the help of a map and a compass.
WHERE TO GET MAPS
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) makes useful maps for hikers. They are called topographic maps-from the Greek topos, "place," and gaphein. "to write." Because they enclose a four-sided area, they are also known as quadrangle maps.
