JAMBOREES
AS SCOUTING
SPREAD around the
world in the early years of
the twentieth century,
Lord Baden-Powell invited
Scouts from all nations to
a jamboree in London. He
wanted young people of
many countries to camp
with each other, share their
knowledge, and develop
friendships. The 1920 jamboree
was such a success that world jamborees continue
to be held every four years. BSA national jamborees, also
four years apart, bring together thousands of American Scouts for a week
of fun, learning, and fellowship.
Baden-Powell hoped that get-togethers of bays from around
the world would, as he put it, "establish friendships among
Scouts of all nations and help to develop peace and happiness
in the world and goodwill among men:'
