Merit badges

EARNING A MERIT BADGE

WORKING ON MERITBADGES is especially enjoyable when you do it with another Scout. The BSA encourages this by making the buddy system a part of the merit badge program. Together, you can meet with merit badge counselors, plan projects, and keep your enthusiasm high. The requirements for each merit badge appear in the current BSA merit badge pamphlet for that award, and in the book Boy Scout Requirements, available at Scout shops and council service centers. When you have decided on a merit badge you would like to earn, follow these steps:

Obtain from our Scoutmaster a signed merit badge application and the name of a qualified counselor for that merit badge. (A counselor must know a subject well, have the ability to work effectively with Scouts, and be currently register as a merit badge counselor by the Boy Scouts of America.)

Along with another Scout, a relative, or a friend, set up and attend your first appointment with the merit badge counselor. The counselor will explain the requirements for the badge and help you plan ways to fulfill them so that you can get the most our of the experience.

Complete the reqirements. meeting with your couselor whenever necessary until you have finished working on the badge.
