NO-TRACE HIKING
HIKING SO THAT you leave no trace shows you care about the land and know how to travel through it wisely.
When your route takes you along a trail, stay on the pathway. Hikers cutting across switchbacks or taking other shortcuts often trample vegetation that holds topsoil in place. The resulting erosion can damage or even destroy the trail.
Some sections of parks and forests are managed as wilderness areas. Regulations protecting those areas might limit group size, forbid campfires, and restrict other activities. Find out what the guidelines are before you start a hike, then obey them.
Keep trails clean by picking up litter. See if your patrol or troop can pitch in to help repair and maintain the hiking trails you enjoy using.
