FIRST CLASS SCOUT

5. Visit and discuss with a selected individual approved by your leader [elected official, judge, attorney, civil servant, principal, teacher) your Constitutional rights and obligations as a U.S. citizen. Much of Scouting prepares you to explore the outdoors and understand the natural world all around you. Just as important, though, is getting to know your own community-who does what, how people must cooper- ate to improve their neighborhoods, and what you can do to help make things go. Many individuals are dedicated to public service. Visiting with them can help you understand the challenges and rewards of their work. You might also discover some of the many ways that you can be of service to your neighborhood and your community. For more on your rights and responsibilities as a citizen, see chapter 12, "Citizenship," beginning on page 331.

A Visit with a Community Leader In the spaces below, write a brief summary of your discussion with an elected official, judge, attorney, civil servant, principal, teacher, or other community leader.
